That is the law, and that is the standard that pawnshops are held to. People going around buying gold at gold parties are in violation of state law. Why do they do it then and how can they get away with it? Simple, there is a lot of money to be made and the police are not interested in enforcing the law. So are you going to go to jail? Probably not, but you are helping somebody break the law.
